Subsection 1.3.2 Conversion of Units

The unit can be converted from one system of units to another or within the system of units itself.

Example 1.3.3.

  1. Convert 50 \(km/h\) into \(m/s\)
  2. Convert 50 \(mile/h\) into \(m/s\)
  3. Convert 2 \(m^2\) into \(cm^2\)
Solution.
  1. \begin{equation*} \frac{50km}{hour}\cdot \frac{1000m}{1km}\cdot \frac{1hour}{60\times 60 s}=13.89m/s \end{equation*}
  2. \begin{equation*} \frac{50mile}{hour}\cdot \frac{1609m}{1mile}\cdot \frac{1hour}{60\times 60 s}=22.35m/s \end{equation*}
  3. \begin{equation*} 2m^2 = 2\cdot\left(\frac{100cm}{1m}\right)^2=20000 cm^2 \end{equation*}
